Gary is right about three things:
1. Marketers take tactics and abuse the hell out of them until they’re ruined.
2. The greatest marketers are all storytellers.
3. There are things like Google Glass about which we say, “No WAY am I ever going to wear that,” but we will.
1. True.
2. Unfortunate, given point #1. (In other words, will storytelling become the next abused tactic? I fear it already is.)
3. Yes. Recursive, isn’t it? We see new innovation, we criticize it, someone makes it work and then we all copy it until point #1 again.
I don’t want storytelling to get ruined. It’s all we got!
I’m right there with you – I think good stories are here to stay. But, I think “storytelling” as a concept will get diluted as more marketers think they are doing it because they are creating content.
