Chris Reimer is Available For Hire

I don’t mean to darken your day, but I have some important news to share. Starting very soon, I’ll no longer be employed by Kaldi’s Coffee. Sad face emoji.

I had been hired to be Marketing Director of both Kaldi’s Coffee and a sister company, Honolulu Coffee (they have common ownership). Since my hire, needs of the two companies have changed, so my job is going away. I am grateful to have had the chance to work with some talented people, and to learn so much about something as wonderful as coffee. And it should be noted that, for now, I’m still employed there – Kaldi’s is giving me a chance to find something new and land on my feet. Simultaneously, over the past month, they allowed me to work on the release of my book without worrying about finding a way to pay our bills. I think that speaks highly of them.

It’s unfortunate things didn’t turn out the way I had hoped. Looking at it another way, this is an exciting time, as I’m officially a free agent. I’ve never looked for a job in this manner; my employment searches have always been private. This search needs to be public, as I want to give myself the best opportunity to find something great.

Here’s what I’m looking for: a marketing/communications job in St. Louis with a nonprofit organization, marketing agency, or a small-to-medium-sized company with a great team of people. My “particular set of skills” include: marketing, communication, PR, raising visibility and awareness of brands and causes, writing, improving workplace morale, and social media strategy. As many of you know, I used to be a CPA, so I also have knowledge of finance (and its impact on marketing, and vice versa).

I’m a passionate, motivational, award-winning storyteller who enjoys teaching, strategizing, and thinking about the big picture. As evidenced by my book Happywork, I’m a team player who’s not afraid of change (and if you’ve read this far, yes I enjoy long walks on the beach).

For anyone interested, you can learn more about my background and skills on my LinkedIn page, or on the About page of this website.

Please spread the word about my availability as you see fit, and keep your eyes and ears open for me. Life goes on, if you let it. Time to find the next great challenge! Lend a hand, if you can – thank you!

Happywork Book

BREAKING: I have my first-ever book coming out! Just in case the news had escaped you …

In an attempt to spread the happy-at-work-first message of my book, while simultaneously enriching myself with fat book royalties (definitely joking here), I am pleased to offer you the chance to buy multiple copies of my book at once. Even though you can only read one of them at a time, there is a method to this madness.

If you’re one of the lucky ones who has found happiness at work, you are a rare breed. Over 70% of people are unhappy at their jobs, and frankly, the other 30% may end up joining them at some point! I want to improve our work lives, and I think Happywork can be part of the solution.

WHAT COULD YOU DO WITH MULTIPLE COPIES OF HAPPYWORK?

1. Give copies to all of your employees. Show them you care about a happy workplace. But don’t just hand them the book. Everyone needs to read it, and then you need to get together and discuss it. And depending on how many you buy, you can bring me in to help facilitate those discussions. Use the ideas contained in the book to improve an unhappy workplace, or keep your already-happy workplace happy.

2. Give copies to the graduate in your life. Your young sons and daughters will be getting their degrees and entering a competitive, often unhappy workplace. I’m hoping parents now and in the future can raise a generation of people who expect to enjoy their jobs. That hard work can start now, and I humbly submit that my book can play a role.

3. Give a book to someone you know who’s in job pain. I’ve had people who are unhappy at work read my book, and each time, I’ve basically received a 5-star review! (Trust me, every good review matters to me!) If work is getting you down, you’re going to relate to the characters in my book, and therein I give you ideas on how to deal with negative people and adverse work situations.

Happywork TV Episode 6: Give Your Employees a Chance to Improve and Succeed

In Episode 6 of Happywork TV, I discuss the fourth of 46 work commitments in my new book, “Happywork.”

Here it is: “I will provide my employees the tools and training they need to have a chance to succeed … I will remember that it’s not just the business owner who comes to work everyday to achieve great things. Employees want to get better at what they do without having to leave our organization.”

How often have you or someone you know left a job because, “There was no room for advancement?” True, not all companies are large enough to offer robust options for promotions, pay increases, and advancement. However, too many companies have owners and managers who don’t take their employees’ careers into account AT ALL. It is inefficient to have great people leave your employ. If you have an HR department, it keeps them unnecessarily busy. If you don’t have an HR department, who is working to hire new people to come in and replace these great employees?

You might think most employees just want to do their jobs, but I would submit to you that most of them also want to achieve great things at work. It is only the hardest soul whose heart wouldn’t be warmed by a huge success at work.

Owners and managers, give your peeps the tools they need to get the job done, and take a genuine interest in their careers and lives.

Happywork TV Episode 5: Be Kind to Others

In Episode 5 of Happywork TV, I share a quote I read on SI.com. Most NFL players don’t help their opponents up off the field when a play is over, but one player does. And he catches some criticism for it. He doesn’t care, and I love that. Yes, two teams are trying to beat each other, but helping a fellow human being up off the ground isn’t going to make or break your chances of winning. Get real.

Lesson for work: lend a hand when you can. Less competing with each other, and more cooperating.

New Falk Harrison Video – Companies Transitioning Money and Effort To Social Media

My employer Falk Harrison and I made this video that discusses the challenges companies face in transitioning time and effort to social media. Matt Bell did a very nice job with the cinematography. It’s amazing what a video starts to look like when you put the Flip Cam down.

Rizzo Tees Talking Social Media At Webster University School Of Business – Video

Webster University

It was an honor to be invited to the George Herbert Walker School Of Business And Technology for the latest installment of their Walker Speaker Series. I participated in a panel discussion on “Bettering Your Business Using Social Media.”

I was joined on stage by fellow panelists Kathleen Manning of Monsanto, Amber Talbot of Scottrade, and Dave Collett of Weber Shandwick. Dr. Benjamin Akande, dean of the Business School, moderated our discussion. He started us off with some questions of his own, and then we took audience questions. Dr. Akande deftly moved us from one topic to the next, and I think the panel especially enjoyed engaging with the audience.

Thanks to Dr. Akande for moderating, Charla Lord for helping us out behind the scenes, and Patrick Powers for inviting me in the first place, and being an all around cool guy.

I did especially enjoy the Webster University blog post linked to above (and pictured above) that includes an autofeed of their latest tweet. That tweet was a retweet of my #FollowFriday tweet for Dr. Akande.  The irony is thick and heavy, no?

Thanks again to Webster University. Let’s do it again sometime!
