RFT Announces Its 2011 Web Awards, And I’m Freaking Out Just A Little Bit

Rizzo Tees Wins Best Twitterer Award

The Riverfront Times announced its 2011 St. Louis Web Awards this evening, and I was a bit freaked to find that I won in the category of Best Twitterer in St. Louis. A link to the page where I’m mentioned is here. I saw a tweet from @IShotGuyDebord congratulating me, and I wasn’t sure what it meant. Then I remembered the RFT awards, and I booted up RiverfrontTimes.com. I was honestly really nervous as I pulled up the story and scanned through the results!

Thank you to the Riverfront Times, the judges that votes for me, my friends at Scorch, and big big thanks to Falk Harrison for recently bringing me on staff. And shoutouts to fellow nominees @CosmosGirl, @Tojosan, @MayorSlay, and @Nelly_MO. All are deserving of this for sure. Nelly, I’ll see you at the awards ceremony at The Firebird.

What does this all mean?

I’m thrilled to no longer be working in accounting, and I’m finally happy with what I’m doing with my work life. When it comes to winning awards like this, the fact that I enjoy what I do can’t hurt. Are buzz words like transparency and passion getting tired? If they are for you, that’s OK. They remain important in social media, and really really important in my life, so I’m going to keep doing what I’m doing and let the chips fall where they may. I am enjoying the hell out of myself.

Time for celebratory wine!

p.s. In reference to the RFT story, yes, I DO work, but I take Twitter breaks instead of smoke breaks. 🙂

RizzoTees Nominated As Best Twitterer In St. Louis – Keep Your Fingers Crossed For Me!

2011 RFT Web Awards

The Riverfront Times is holding is first-ever St. Louis Web Awards. And I made the group of finalists in the category of Best Twitterer! My nomination can be seen on this page.

Thanks to everyone that nominated me, thanks to The Riverfront Times, the judges, and @rftmusic for including me as a finalist, and thanks to everyone on Twitter and Facebook for the kind wishes and congratulations.

Finally, best of luck to @CosmosGirl and @Tojosan, my fellow nominees. Somehow, I’m not sure Nelly and @MayorSlay need any help winning this thing. (MayorSlay and his team do a fantastic job with his Twitter presence).

Winners will be announced on Tuesday, January 25. Keep your fingers crossed for a Rizzo victory!

Speaking Engagement Tonight At The Gramophone – I’m Goin’ OFF!

Tonight I’ll be at the STLMixtapes.com tweetup at The Gramophone in St. Louis, MO. My friends J-Will (@theobell) and Los (@biglos) invited me to speak about social media with local DJs, artists, and producers as part of the kickoff of their new project, STLMixTapes. I’m really excited to make the case that using social media to take the general public into the world of a rapper, into the process of making an album and touring, will help them meet with even more success.

And I will argue that this is even more important for the up-and-coming rapper/DJ/producer. You might be able to get away with old-school marketing if you’re Nelly (because he’s already highly visible), but if you’re not as well known and you’re looking to bust out, you need to be letting the general public get close to you through social media.

And after I’m done talking (read: after I’m thrown off the stage), there will be live performances by Potzee, Gena, Tef Poe, Rockwell Knuckles, & M.C.

You can RSVP here, or just show up. See you there tonight!
